Hallandale Beach History

Hallandale Beach County is named after Luther Hallandale, a railroad employee. By the beginning of the XX century, a peasant community consisting of Swedish, English and African immigrants settled here. During the construction of the railroad, Luther Halland organized the first trading post and became the postmaster of a small community. Hallandale Beach land was offered as cheap land in a frost-free climate. After World War II, the area received the status of a city, and in the late 90s it was renamed Hallandale Beach.

The fame and popularity of the area is partly due to the famous Gulfstream Park shopping and entertainment complex and the Mardi Gras Casino, which are located on its territory, and partly to banks and several brokerage houses. The area is attractive to tourists and wealthy retirees, and is one of the fastest growing areas of Miami. Aventura Mall is located next door. From Hallandale Beach only 10 minutes to Miami International Airport. The area is served by several bus routes and a free minibus service within the Hollywood and Aventura neighborhoods. The main part of the inhabitants of the area moves by their own or rented cars.
